Analysis for Innovators (A4I) Round 6

Up to £3 million in small collaborative innovation projects will be invested by:

  • Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation
  • the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)
  • the National Measurement Laboratory at LGC (formerly known as the Laboratory of the Government Chemist)
  • the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL)
  • the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

 The aim of this competition is to match the best UK scientists and cutting-edge facilities with businesses that have analysis or measurement problems.

Green Heat Network Fund Transition Scheme

The Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) is a capital grant fund open to the public and private sector in England that will capitalise on the progress and development made by the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP), by supporting the development of low and zero carbon (LZC) heat networks (including the supply of cooling).

BEIS – Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage Innovation 2.0 Competition

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is looking to support the deployment of advanced carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) technologies within the UK. The £20Mn programme will support projects for capture, transportation, utilisation and storage of carbon dioxide that increase Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Commercial Readiness Level (CRL).
Closes: Register by 31st July 2021, 5pm.  Competition final deadline 29th August 2021.

This grant-funded competition will fund projects to demonstrate first-of-a-kind longer duration (minimum 4 hours) energy storage facilities, using innovative storage technologies.

Nature for climate peatland grant scheme

The Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme (NCPGS) provides funding to restore peatlands in the uplands and lowlands of England. Natural England is looking for landscape scale applications that work to restore the whole hydrological unit of a peatland.

The Open Call for Proposals is aimed at fostering activities bringing space technology that contributes towards shaping the NHS Future Hospital project initiative, recently kicked off by the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a well-established collaboration between the UK National Health Service (NHS), the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency (ESA)

Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care Award (AI Award) – Competition 3

The Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care Award (AI Award) supports AI solutions across the whole development pathway, from initial feasibility to clinical implementation. It is funded by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the NIHR in partnership with the Accelerated Access Collaborative and NHSX.

Fisheries and Seafood scheme

The Fisheries and Seafood Scheme will provide financial support for projects in England that secure sustainable growth across the catching, processing and aquaculture sectors, and that protect and enhance the marine environment.

CCAV – Advancing Safely to full vehicle automation

The Department for Transport (DfT) and the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) will invest a total of up to £1.5million for up to three automated vehicle projects. Projects will continue development of technologies and assurance processes to enable fully automated passenger and/or freight vehicles.

DASA – Defence Innovation Loans

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) are offering an opportunity for single small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with solutions to Defence themed problems to apply for a Defence Innovation Loan of between £250,000 and £1.6Mn with a below market interest rate of 7.4% per annum.

NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) Connect

The Connect awards support research and development of medical devices, active implantable devices and in vitro diagnostic devices in any area of existing or emerging clinical need.
These awards are aimed at SMEs to apply alone, with the intention that they de-risk projects to better position them to apply for further funding. The expected outputs will thus be validated designs, prototypes or subcomponents of more complicated devices or technologies. The ultimate aim is to get products or services to a position where they can enter and be used within the NHS.

ISCF smart sustainable plastic packaging: business-led R&D

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £7 million from the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Programme in innovation projects.

These projects must have the potential to significantly impact the 2025 UK Plastics Pact targets in the long term, and address widely known problems related to plastic packaging for consumer products.
